Have you seen any stray animals around on the streets? Please call your local rescue!
However, if you are under circumstances where you can't reach the local rescue and fear for the well being of the animal, here are some ideas:
- Ensure your safety first, the animal, especially ones that are mistreated can be aggressive since you are a stranger to them. If you think the animal is aggressive (usually dogs) then stay away and waiting and notifying the local rescue is the best option. The dogs might not be vaccinated and so your health is more important.
- However, although the dog may be aggressive, it doesn't mean that you can't help! Set up some sort of temporary shelter (such as a cardboard box with some sort of rain cover and blankets) for protection against weather. Then ask a friend or neighbor to help you check on the dog regularly and give it food and plenty of water.
- Contact an animal shelter as soon as possible, don't try to find a home for the animal yourself because it's best for the animal to go to a proper and well maintained shelter rather than a home that doesn't provide a good enough environment
