Wolf and Dog

A wolf’s tail hangs, while a dog’s tail tends to stick up

•    A wolf’s pawprint can be bigger than a human hand.
•    A wolf’s tail hangs, while a dog’s tail tends to stick up.
•    A dog’s ear are pointed a wolf’s are rounded.
•    Every wolf pack has a leader. He’s called the alpha male.

EAR BACK AND SQUINT – I’m afraid.

DANCE AND BOW – Want to play?

HIGH WHINE – Puppies, come here!

WAG JUST THE TIP OF THE TAIL – I’m about to attack.

Behavior Problems

Everyone has behavior problems. At a young age, most probably. So do dogs.

No, if they try to bite you, that is not a sign that you should abandon them. Would you like it if your parents abandoned you because you threw a tantrum at home?

There are trainers at dog shelters i'm sure, so why don't you go find one and ask them for help? Although i reckon dog behavior problems may be caused by your lack of understanding. So be prepared to try to understand and communicate with them because this isn't a problem that can be fixed by anyone!

It has to be you!

Casey

It so happens that there is this dog named Casey. A mongrel, cream colored. A beautiful dog. He was classified as a "red" dog as he was mistreated and has a very damaged leg. He gets into fights with other dogs and hardly get along with people as he is snappy and rather aggressive. I honestly don't see a problem with it.

I noticed on the sheet of paper that casey didn't get walks at all that day. And when i approached the kennel, he started leaping up and barking. It freaked me out. So i got a strong leash, and i asked a volunteer to help me leash him. This volunteer warned me that he was very strong and i have to be careful with him. And so i did. He tried snapping at me but i didn't let him. I held onto the leash firmly, tore off a few plastic bags in case he needed to poop.

Through the walk, he was very hyper. Trying to run uphill. Actually, it was quite helpful as i was tired from walking the other dogs and having a strong dog drag me uphill was rather helpful. But i had to show him who wwas in control. It wasn't too hard. But it was definitely a good experience.

Helping Out

I've been helping out at a local dog rescue for a few months. I really really enjoy it! The dog smell, the wagging of tails from dogs when they see you. The look of happiness when you groom them. How they enjoy it when you give them a belly rub. How much nicer and happier you feel after cleaning their kennels and seeing that they have a cleaner kennel.

It's BRILLIANT. I love the feeling. I would live in the shelter if i could. The sense of helpfulness cannot be beaten.

I think it's amazing how you get close to a dog after a while, no matter how much they have been mistreated. With patience and rewards. Miracles happen.

Animal of the Day - Zebra

Zebras. White. Black. That's our first impressions. They are..also instinctively attracted to anything with black and white stripes! I personally love Zebra stripes, whether it is nails, cover patterns etc. But never fur. Never ever.

So go paint some stripes on a wall or wear a black and white stripy shirt and they will stand next to you!

Just like fingerprints, no two zebra stripe patterns are alike
A zebra's night vision is as good as an owl's
Zebras smile; a bared teeth grimace
They travel in herds of up to 10,000!
A few Zebras are white with black stripes and not th other way round!

Animal of the Day - Platypus!

Known for its “duck-like” appearance, the Platypus is actually a mammal and is perfectly suited to live underwater and underground.

The Bill – The platypus’ bill isn’t hard like a bird’s beak, but rather it’s made out of soft cartilage (the same substance that makes your ears and nose).

Babies – The duckbilled platypus lays eggs. Each egg sticks to the fur of the mother’s belly. They hatch into platypups, and continue to stick to their mother’s fur for three months.

Claws – When the male platypus is attacked it protects itself by clawing at its enemy with the spurs on its hind legs. Not only are they sharp but they contain poison – enough to kill a dog

Habitat – They are only found in Eastern Australia in fresh water rivers and banks.

Animal of the Day - Giraffes!

Giraffe’s favourite food is the thorny acacia tree. The tree’s leaves could be completely eaten by the giraffe, however it releases a chemical called tannin, which is repelling in taste to the giraffe.

Not only does that tree, stop the giraffe from eating its own leaves, but releases a chemical warning nearby acacia trees to release tannin into their leaves.

The giraffe is one of the few animals born wiht horns. The horns lie flat against the skull when it is born and pop up during the giraffe's first week of life.

Adopt Don't Buy

I personally don't like the idea of buying animals from shops.

  • these animals are bred. they may look cute but what about their parents?
  • they are separated from their parents. how would you feel?
  • bred in quantity and in horrible conditions
  • RETURN policy?! WHAT?!
  • purchasing a life for MONEY? is that how we work now?
  • baby animals suffer psychological problems from being separated from their parents

Meat IS Murder

I won't criticise meat-eaters. Although i'm an animal rights activist, i am anaemic and so i have to eat red meat and eggs to keep my blood count up.

Why are vegetarians vegetarians? They probably, understand that meat is eating "murder", not just the way they are killed. Restaurants and chains may show how nicely they treat the animals but reality is, those animals are kept in crowded and dirty conditions in slaughterhouses and factory farms. They are abused. mistreated. It should be illegal! But again..money drives everything doesn't it. These heinous deeds do not trigger the consciences of people. how can they turn away?

Let Us Respect Animal Rights

And i'm sorry, but this is sort of ironic coming from The China Daily

Human beings must learn to respect animals, as well as each other, says an article in Beijing News. An excerpt follows: The case of a postgraduate from Fudan University killing 30 kittens in a very cruel manner was recently exposed by the media, inviting extensive comment and many discussions on the mental health of university students. On the other hand, the frequent mutilation of animals by university students reflects and, to a certain extent, has something to do with the country’s cuisine culture and some people’s traditional attitude towards animals. There is a lack of education about respect for the lives of animals in the country. Some parents have added to their children’s indifference to animals. Some often buy little animals for their kids as “live toys” that are at their disposal, even available for abuse, but not treated as live things that should be respected. Some people’s ideas of life are completely founded on egotism. Respecting animals should be part of the civilized conduct of modern human beings. This value should reflect mankind’s respect not only for human rights, but also for the rights of lower animals. What the country should do is to try to raise awareness not only in a moral sense, but through working out a set of laws and regulations aimed at the protection of animals and their welfare, to stop human cruelty. We should bear in mind that protecting animals and respecting their lives is essential for humankind.

i do not take credit for this because this is not mine.

Nepal and Elephants

Nepal is not a particularly nice country to elephants either. Internation Elephant Polo? And i thought nothing could get worse than Ox fights, Greyhound racing and such.

Different countries participate in this competition and elephants are forced to drink alcohol. What is wrong with humans in this world? Whipping elephants to make sure they drink the alcohol then prepare them for competition a day after? These competitions KILL those poor creatures and it seems like no one speaks for those poor innocent creatures.

Competitiveness killed those poor animals. winning is priority. not the lives on those animals. Money has brainwashed us.

Tuesday, July 21

I think the most serious problem is in China. Although i haven't done much research on this yet, it is easy to spot China as a major animal cruelty country. No, i'm not trying to discriminate anyone. I am, Chinese, after all. I personally know that people in China raise ChowChows (which is a breed of dog) to eat them. I don't understand. Won't you get attached to the animals? Do these people have no feelings?

From the Lab to our Dining Tables

Animals. The signs of animal cruelty are everywhere.
From our experimental table in our science labs to our dining table.
We always see animals sacrificed for mankind. for us.
we make so called "delicious meals" from chicken, pork, beef, snake, lamb, fish. Even crocodiles and dogs!
We have cooked, boiled, fried, baked all the possible meat there is to eat, leaving no animal out of our hands. Why? This is a crime. Benefiting mankind, for our health, for our satisfaction? This isn't helping mankind. We are turning everyone in this wold into a criminal.

Sunday, July 12

Monkeys.

It is common knowledge that people in China eat almost anything, from chicken testicles to mice, but raw monkey brains? Yes, raw.

The animal is strapped beneath the table with its head poking through a hole. You then proceed to bash the monkey’s head while it stares and shrieks at you, pleading for mercy. Next you slice open the scalp of the monkey Even though it will thrash about for several minutes after you have sliced open its cranium. By now the monkey will be dying from blood loss, however will still feel the pain as you scoop out parts of its brain.

And i thought China could no be anymore inhumane.

Sort Out Your Priorities

Humans and Animals. We're all human beings. Why are they treated as if they're inferior to us? They're living animals. There are many different things people can try their best, exhaust all your control, and help the animals. Everyone can help, whether of your income, race, nationality etc.

- Buy less meat, increase your proportion of veggies on your dinning
- Buy less diary products! Going without cheese on your pasta ain't gonna make it difficult for you
- Make sure the products you buy (cream etc) are  not tested on animals
- Don't buy FUR!!! Fake articifical fur is fine, but not real tortured animal fur.
- Ensure your medicine is not tested on animals. But then again if you have no choice, it isn't your fault. It's the drug companies' fault. So try to avoid it unless you really can't control it.
- Adopt pets! you want a dog? there are plenty of cute dogs! just visit the nearest shelter you can find!

Please let's all try to cut animal-cruelty related products out of our lives. these tiny steps make a difference!

Appalling Do You Knows

Everyone knows what endangered species is. Brink of Extrinction. May not mean a lot to you but, if you think about it this way. What would you do if humans died out?

Rhinos are tortured. What for? For their horns. And if you can't stand gory pictures (i died inside looking at these pictures) please don't read further

Is your body a graveyard

did you know

a body consumes over 1500 animals in his or her lifetime?

are you going to be one of them?

Wednesday, June 10

Problem or not?

Today, i was walking with my friend and we happened to pass a McDonalds. We saw this middle-aged woman licking her ice cream and letting her dog lick it.

Personally, i don't really think it's correct because in a way it is gross. But..then again i see a lot of peole sharing food with their pets and stuff, so is it alright to do so then?

Slash and Burn

Slash and Burn techniques destroy the environment and eco-system. These techniques are found in use in forests such as the Amazon Rainforest. The "slash" is the cutting of the forest before a dry season, and during the dry season it is then burnt. Although this is vey effective in fertilizing the soil and such, animals such as chimpanzees and other animals that are on the brink of extinction.

Treating Your Pets Right

1) Don't use whistles to train your dogs because the high pitch frequency damages their eardrums
2) Don't use choke chains no matter how hard your dog is to handle. Patience and rewards are the best ways to train a dog properly. Not choking them.
3) Cut their nails with proper equipment because if you use normal scissors they will bleed. And long nails hurt when they walk.
4) Don't cut their whiskers, it decreases their senses, in particular their hunting ability. I know some people do that when entering Dog Shows. But don't do that.

Circus Tricks

Animals do indeed play a big role in our everyday life. Even the most hardcore animal lovers, me included, would admit to watching a circus of some sort which features animals? I have. And i am ashamed of that.

I am sure that almost all of us have been to a circus, watched it and enjoyed it. There’s a few things we don’t know though. We don’t know what their living conditions are. We don’t know how they are trained. You would not be happy if you were forced to do headstands and sit-ups and being prodded with whips from your trainer as a punishment.

At the end, the animals learn to do the tricks because they’re scared of being punished. They have to endure endless days of training, practicing and hours of performing. At the end of the day, they rest in poor and cramped conditions, but the circus camp can actually afford to improve the animal’s living conditions, they just want to maximize profit and they don’t care if the animals suffer.

They shouldn’t be treated like this! How would you feel if you were them? The animals should be released into their natural habitats instead of being trained for something that normal animals don’t do. Trainers should get it into their head that animals do not naturally ride bicycles or jump through rings of fire.

Dogs and How You Should Treat 'Em

A dog needs freedom! Even you would't want to be taking orders from someone 24/7!

If you have a dog, please try to take these measures (tick off the ones you've done!)

- Allow them playtime
- 4-5 times per day, bring them out for a chance to relief themselves, i'm sure you know how uncomfortable it is to have an exploding bladder with no toilet nearby!
- Feed them before you eat! How would you feel if you were starving and someone came up to you and started eating your favorite dish?
- Teach them house rules. If they misbehave, that is YOUR responsibility.
- Never ever hit them!

Wednesday, May 27

Kitties

Meow! I don't really know THAT much about cats but here is all that i know:

- Keep your cat's litter box clean clean clean! I'm sure you would not like to put your hand into the litter box, just like your cat wouldn't, when it's dirty. Yuck!
- Just the opposite of dogs, cats should be kept indoors, unless you really want to bring them out, then you must have an eye on them 24/7.
- Make sure their collars are the right size (applies for dogs too!) Try to fit 3 fingers within the collar (this is something i learnt from doing charity) Check if often if your pet is young because he/she will be growing!

Fleas

Summer is Tick And Flea Season! Remember to groom your pet often to prevent this problem. Fleas feed on animal blood and cause problems such as skin irritation, anemia and even death! Some can carry tapeworms which can invest your pet and make it really REALLY sick.

Rodents

Keeping rodents such as gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs may be tough although they are small. Here's some tips off the top of my head! Use it as a checklist if you want.

- A private space. Everyone wants their privacy, just like hamsters do. So give them some private space to rest in and have some privacy of their own. You can buy it or create one of your own. I've seen a few nice houses for hamsters, pumpkin shaped etc. Or you can simpy make one out of cardboard and cutting out holes as small windows and doors.

- A clean comfortable cage with a lot of shavings or newspaper sheets. Try to avoid wood because it's extremely difficult to clean and hamsters do defecate a lot!

- Toys. Boredom kills. Give them running wheels, connected toilet rolls as a tunnel or ropes and ladders to climb on.

Saturday, May 2

Rodents

Here's a small checklist to see if you're taking care of your tiny cute rodents! I will continue this list once i put more thought in it!

- A large cage for hamsters to run around. Although they can run around in the cage, bring them outside the house to let them run in your room or something, but make sure they don't get stuck or anything!

- Keep the cage clean, clean it around once a week or so.

- Feed them treats. Raisins, seeds. They love them.
